Ganondagan – Granary Trail at Fort Hill

Location: Victor, NY

Note: There is hunting allowed at Ganondagan. Do your research before visiting these hiking trails and take safety precautions.

Ganondagan, located 25 minutes south of Rochester, is the original site of a 17th century Seneca town. Today, it is home to the Ganondagan State Historic Site and miles of beautiful trails.

The 0.6 mile Granary Trail goes up to the top of Fort Hill where the people of Ganondagan built a large corn granary. There are signs that teach about the history of the granary. The trail goes through the woods with a few short boardwalks and then through a meadow with birdhouses. At the top is a bench and picnic table with beautiful views. According to the Ganondagan website, if you look south on a clear day, you may be able to see Bare Hill, the legendary birthplace of the Seneca nation. The trail surface is grass and dirt with an incline as it climbs the hill. It would not be stroller friendly.

Note: The Longhouse and Art & Culture center are only open certain days/times and required paying admission (kids 4 and under are free) but the hiking trails are open 7 days a week and are free to hike. Check the website for more info.
