Location: Branchport, NY
The Saunders Finger Lakes Museum is located 1 hour southeast of Rochester, NY. There are nature trails, a kayak launch, StoryWalk, and a natural playscape. Other exhibits are currently under construction. Across the road from the Creekside Center is the Townsend-Grady Wildlife Preserve. The Sugar Creek Trail goes from a grassy parking area, along Sugar Creek, all the way to the shore of Keuka Lake. This trail is approximately 0.3 miles each way (0.6 miles round trip). At the end of the trail is a wooden boardwalk leading to a gazebo and bench with beautiful lake views. Along the trail is a bench and small bridge and some informational signs about plant and animal life. A few aide trails branch off from the main trail. The Painted Rock Trail had some very pretty painted rocks hidden in the woods alongside the trail. On the Gnome Trail I found two metal gnomes in the trees – not sure if there were more that I didn’t see. The trails are grass and not very stroller friendly, but it might be possible with a sturdy stroller. Leashed dogs are allowed. Restrooms are located across the road at the Creekside Center of the museum.
