Saunders Finger Lakes Museum – Izaak Walton League Verdi Burtch Wildlife Sanctuary

Location: Branchport, NY

The Saunders Finger Lakes Museum is located 1 hour southeast of Rochester, NY. There are nature trails, a kayak launch, StoryWalk, and a natural playscape. Other exhibits are currently under construction. Across the road from the Creekside Center is the Verdi Burtch Wildlife Sanctuary maintained by the Izaak Walton League. There is a 0.3 mile each way (0.6 mile roundtrip) trail along the creek to Keuka Lake. At the start of the trail is a wooden deck with informational signs. The trail is flat and narrow and is a mix of dirt and grass. There are many wildflowers and butterflies, through the trail was a bit overgrown with flowers when I visited! At the end of the trail is a wooden platform that you can climb to see beautiful views of the lake and surrounding area. The parking lot is connected to the Modeste Bedient Memorial Library with a playground. Restrooms are located across the road at the Creekside Center of the museum.
