Ganondagan, located 25 minutes south of Rochester, is the original site of a 17th century Seneca town. Today, it is home to the Ganondagan State Historic Site and miles of beautiful trails.
The Earth is our Mother Trail starts behind the Seneca Art & Culture Center. We usually stop to check out the Seneca Bark Longhouse before hiking (tours are needed to go inside, open seasonally). Along this trail are informational signs showing the many plants that are important to the Seneca People. This trail is NOT a loop trail – it is 0.89 miles 1 way (round trip is 1.78 miles). There are also a few cut through trails to make a loop with the Great Oak Trail. The trail is dirt with some hills and lots of roots – it is not considered stroller friendly.
Note: The Longhouse and Art & Culture center are only open certain days/times and required paying admission (kids 4 and under are free) but the hiking trails are open 7 days a week and are free to hike. Check the website for more info.
