Alden Town Park – Joe Panza Nature Trail

Location: Alden, NY

This nature trail is located a bit over 1 hour west of Rochester, NY outside of Buffalo. The entire loop trail was around 1.5 miles and starts from the Alden Town Park Loop. The path was a mix of gravel and dirt and would not be considered very stroller friendly. The trail passes through pine woods, marsh, and passes by Ellicott Creek. There were a few benches and a few labeled tree identification signs. There are also numbered posts along the trail that correspond with the numbers on the trail maps below.

There are numerous wildflowers and plants along the trail. At the northeast corner of the loop (labeled 6 in the map below) there is a narrow trail that branches off toward Ellicott Creek to an area with Virginia bluebells. There were handful of bluebell plants among the greenery and a large field of bluebells can be seen across the creek. As far as I know, there is no path to or through the large field.

The park itself has a traditional playground and other play structures, a kids swim area, pavilions, restrooms (that were locked when we visited on a weekend), a stroller friendly perimeter path, and sports fields. Leashed dogs are allowed as far as I know.
