Beechwood State Park

Location: Sodus, NY

This beautiful park is located 40 minutes east of Rochester, NY along the shore of Lake Ontario. Camp Beechwood used to be a girl scout camp and is now maintained by the town of Sodus. We parked at the gravel parking area on Gates Drive (off of Lake Road) and hiked the main trail north toward the lake.

We walked about a quarter mile down a mostly flat path to the wooden cabins and fire pit. After looking around the cabins, we continued straight to the views of Lake Ontario. There was also a spot with some benches overlooking the lake. The shore was covered in fallen trees, which was neat! We walked east a bit to the old brick fireplace and some pavilions. There were steep, unstable drop-offs so we kept a large distance from the edge. On our way back to the car, we stopped at a side trail that leads through tall pines, pretty close to the parking lot. It was absolutely beautiful.  The main path is likely stroller friendly, but the side trails may not be.

There was no fee to enter the park. Camping is allowed in the cabins or in a tent, but be sure to read and follow all rules about camping. Camping Information can be found here: Camp Beechwood
