Channing H. Philbrick Park

Location: Penfield, NY

NOTE: A large portion of the trail is closed in Spring and Summer 2025. More information here.

This park is located 12 minutes east of Rochester, NY. Right by the parking lot is a bridge with a stunning view over the Irondequoit Creek. We hiked east along the trail for about a half mile until we reached the boardwalks and bridges. The trail was pretty flat but had some drop offs to the creek. There are some small waterfalls and rapids along the trail.

The boardwalk felt quite treacherous to me – slippery, open sides, and slanted at an angle with some rickety stairs – so we turned around there and headed back. Overall it was a pretty hike with some small waterfalls and creek views along the path but a little nerve racking at the boardwalk! According to their website, there are two main trails: Honey Creek Trail which leads into the Four Corners and Philbrick Park trail along Irondequoit Creek which leads into Panorama Valley. The trails also connect to the Spring Lake Trail. I would not consider this trail very stroller friendly. Leashed dogs are allowed.
