Durand Eastman Park – Pinetum

Location: Rochester, NY

On my hunt to find all of the pine tree hikes in the Rochester area, I had to check out the pinetum at Durand Eastman Park. We parked in the lot on Zoo Road (near this GPS location: 43.231822, -77.555594 and the sign for the “Labor Center”). During the winter months, Zoo Road is closed to vehicles beyond this point and you can walk on the road. If you walk about a quarter mile south along Zoo Road you will come to a small clearing with a sign that says “Overlook” and a bench. There are beautiful pine trees in this clearing. The road is paved and stroller friendly when it is closed.

There is also a trail that leads down into the pinetum. I didn’t see an official trail name. The photo below shows me pointing at the start of the trail, just behind the sign. This trail was not stroller friendly and had some hills and went by a stream.
