Location: Penfield, NY
This beautiful Genesee Land Trust nature preserve is located 15 minutes east of Rochester, NY. This is such a lovely spot to walk and hike! There is a small gravel parking lot right in front of the preserve or you can park across the street at Rothfuss Park and walk over. The 1/4 mile Meadow Trail (purple) loops around the perimeter of a meadow that was full of wild flowers in late September. The 1/4 mile Woods Trail (red) through the woods is flat, but narrow at times, and has two small wooden bridges. Both trails can be connected for a total of 0.8 miles from the parking lot and back. There are two informational signs (shown as stars on the trail map below) and wildlife in this preserve. According to the Genesee Land Trust website, the preserve honors Irene Gossin, an environmental activist, music teacher, and the first female Supervisor of the Town of Penfield elected in 1971.
Beware of ticks and some poison ivy in the wooded section. I would say this is not stroller friendly, unless your stroller can go on uneven grass. There are restrooms and playgrounds across the street at Rothfuss Park.
