Location: Portland, NY
This park is located in Chautauqua County – 2.5 hours southwest of Rochester, NY and 1.5 hours south of Buffalo. Just near the parking lot you can find a pavilion, a large mowed sloped area, and two observation decks with wide views of the surrounding hills and Lake Erie in the distance. There is a beautiful nature trail through the woods. There is a very short loop and a longer loop. The trail signs say that the nature trail is 1 mile long, though my AllTrails app measured about 0.6 miles from the start of the trail at the bottom of the steps to the end of the trail at the road. I then walked up the road back to the parking lot. There are numbered wooden signs throughout the trail that correspond to Natural History Trail Guide. The trail is not stroller friendly, but there is a nice view with a bench from the parking area. There are restrooms, picnic tables, and water fountain at the parking area. Leashed dogs are allowed.
