Location: Montezuma, NY
This beautiful and historic park is located one hour east of Rochester, NY. I walked the 0.4 mile wide, grass Aqueduct Trail (trail 2 on the map) to the historical aqueduct ruins. I then made a loop by walking back along the Seneca River Barge Canal Trail (trail 10) and Lock 62 Trail (trail 3) back to the Aqueduct Trail. I loved all of the ruins and history! There were several benches and informational signs.
From the official website:
“There are now eleven connecting nature trails located along interpreted historic sites of the Erie and Cayuga-Seneca Canal in various stages of development. The remains of the magnificent Richmond Aqueduct, second largest aqueduct on the Enlarged Erie Canal, can be visited along the original towpath trail. Enjoy walking, biking, cross-country skiing, bird watching, and fishing.“
