Royalton Ravine Park

Location: Gasport, NY

This beautiful park is located 1 hour west of Rochester, NY. The park starts with a pavilions, restrooms, grassy fields, and a beautiful pond. There is an opening through the trees beyond the pond that leads to wooded trails. Along the trails are a suspension bridge, a wildflower meadow, a small waterfall and creek, a wildlife blind, an evergreen grove, and stone ruins. The ruins are the former homestead of Belva Lockwood – the first woman to argue a case in the U.S. Supreme Court and the first (or second, according to some) woman to run for President of the United States. Read more about her here or here.

There is a network of several trails in the park. The ones we hiked were mostly flat. The trail map linked below shows the locations of most of the key features of the park. The evergreen tree grove was at the far west end of the park off of one of the trails that connects to Kayner Rd. To hike all of the trails would probably be around 2-3 miles total, but shorter sections can be hiked to the waterfall, bridge, ruins, or wildlife blind.
