Location: Avon, NY
This beautiful hiking area is located 25 minutes south of Rochester, NY. The property is owned by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). We hiked the ~1 mile trail clockwise around the pond. It started by an adorable red A-frame and then along a grassy path along the north end of the pond. Then went along a lovely boardwalk and into a beautiful pine forest. The path branched a bit here but eventually I made my way back to the pond to continue the loop around. This trail is dog friendly but may not be stroller friendly (it was hard to tell in the snow, but there were hills and grass). This is a NY Birding trail and also had a pollinator habitat which I bet is amazing for butterflies in the summer. There are benches as well as a little observation deck over the pond. There is also a spit of land that leads to a few picnic tables – this would be an amazing picnic spot on a nice day!
Directions: On Google Maps, search for the “New York State DEC Avon Office” at 6274 E Avon Lima Rd, Avon, NY (GPS: 42.903086, -77.669266) Be sure to park in the Visitor Lot near the trailhead sign. The red pin on the map below shows the parking area.
